On October 7th, 2001, President George Bush announced that the United States would be launching a War on Terror. Since then, the US has put troops on the ground in volatile regions like the Middle East, hoping to eradicate international terrorism. Regrettably, some of these measures have resulted in civilian casualties and horrific damages to the attacked society. In lesser known cases, terror groups--such as the Chechens in Russia--are simply trying to escape brutality or form a new nation; and in the absence of diplomatic success, their struggles may require violence. However, the actions that terrorists take to achieve their political ends is deplorable and often ineffective. Does this violence have a purpose, and are terrorists justified in using it to try and achieve their political aims?
